The core mission of the Center is to advance critical technologies, pursue fundamental academic breakthroughs, and enhance international academic standing. By integrating NTU’s well-established AI research foundations and concentrated talent base, the Center aims to develop a systematic and scalable research framework. It is positioned to serve as a central hub for frontier AI research in Taiwan, with the strategic objectives of strengthening national capacities in foundational research, supporting industrial transformation, and addressing emerging societal needs.

The AI Center of Research Excellence focuses on four forward-looking research pillars of significant national and strategic importance:
(1) Education and Artificial Intelligence;
(2) Trustworthy and Explainable Artificial Intelligence;
(3) Next-generation AI Models and Computational Infrastructure; and
(4) Multilingual and Cross-cultural Semantic Understanding.

Across these four research domains, the Center emphasizes extensive interdisciplinary collaboration to generate breakthrough and high-impact research outcomes. In parallel, it actively advances key issues such as open data practices, model interpretability, AI ethics, and societal trust in AI systems.

To strengthen Taiwan’s visibility and influence within the global AI academic community, the Center will actively participate in and host leading international conferences, encourage the publication of high-quality research in top-tier venues, and contribute to the cultivation of advanced AI talent to support Taiwan’s AI research and industry ecosystem.

The AI Center of Research Excellence is positioned as both a strategic pillar of Taiwan’s AI research ecosystem and a global collaboration hub.

From a research and development perspective, the Center aligns closely with national AI action plans, addressing critical gaps in long-term foundational research and high-level talent cultivation. From an application and translation perspective, the Center seeks to establish stable and sustained partnerships with leading domestic and international research institutions as well as industry partners, thereby accelerating the transfer of frontier AI technologies into industrial innovation and public-sector applications.

By jointly advancing three strategic priorities—setting research agendas, cultivating key talent, and shaping pathways for trustworthy AI development—the Center aims to establish a resilient foundation for Taiwan’s sustained competitiveness and international influence in the global AI landscape.
